RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech redshirt junior Jamie Gilley was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Associated Pitcher of the Week for April 23-29 on Monday.
This is the first time a Bulldog player has received this honor this season and the first weekly honor for Gilley since transferring from Bossier Parish Community College.
Gilley pitched 6.1 shutout innings and struck out six in three games this week to help the Bulldogs take two-out-of-three from conference foe Hawai’i.
On Friday, Gilley earned his first save of the season after a perfect 2.0 innings out of the Tech bullpen. The Benton, La. Native entered the game with a three-run lead but the Rainbows had the bases loaded with no outs before the right-hander struck out the first two hitters he faced before getting the final out of the inning on a fly out. Gilley pitched a scoreless 2.2 innings in the series finale and struck out three to help the Bulldogs take two-out-of-three from the Rainbows.
Gilley and the Bulldogs host San Jose State for a three-game series beginning on Friday, May 4th at 6 p.m. at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
