RUSTON, La. - The 2008 edition of Coach Wade Simoneaux's "Top Dawg Baseball Camps" are just around the corner with the first of two camps less than a month away.
The Top Dawg Youth Camp is set for June 23-25 while the High School Camp runs July 28-31. Both camps will be held at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park on the Louisiana Tech University campus.
Campers also have the opportunity to participate in a Fall League with games set for select Sundays in September, October and November.
"Top Dawg campers get the opportunity to mix and mingle with Louisiana Tech players and coaches," Simoneaux said. "All phases of the game will be covered, including our strength and conditioning program.
"We look forward to hosting our campers...many of which have turned into current Tech players."
The youth camp runs 9 a.m.-noon each day June 23-25 with late registration at 8 a.m. on June 23. Campers will receive instruction on hitting, defensive skills, pitching and baserunning while also participating in "rag ball" games. The cost for all campers is $150.
High schoolers will have their camp July 28-31 with registration at 1 p.m. on July 28. The camp includes a three-night hotel stay for out-of-town campers. Each camper will go through the same drills that Tech players experience and will also be instructed on defensive skills, hitting and strength and conditioning while playing several intrasquad games.
The cost for day campers is $275, and the cost for overnight campers is $350. Top Dawg campers wishing to participate in the Fall League will receive a discount if they sign up for both. For day campers that wish to play in the Fall League, the cost is $400, and overnight campers can participate in both for $500. The cost for participating in the Fall League alone is $200.
