Harris, Diaz Named All-American by Collegiate Baseball

June 1, 2017

RUSTON, La. - On Thursday morning Collegiate Baseball released their annual All-American teams which featured Louisiana Tech pitcher Nate Harris and the Bulldogs starting catcher Brent Diaz.

This marks the first time in the history of Louisiana Tech Baseball, that the Bulldogs have garnered multiple All-America selections in the same season. The Bulldogs last all-American was Devon Dageford in 2009.

Prior to this season, only three Bulldogs had been selected as all-Americans, including Dageford. Charlie Montoyo was named all-American in 1987 and Brian Rike was named all-American in 2007.

Harris and Diaz were both named first-team all-Conference USA and Harris was tabbed the 2017 Conference USA Pitcher of the Year.

The right-hander also ended the regular season lead Conference USA in wins (8), saves (8), ERA (1.75), complete games (3), WHIP (0.90), walks allowed per nine innings (1.03) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.0).

Diaz, who was named a Johnny Bench Award Semifinalist, is in the running to be selected as a finalist for the award. The finalists for the Johnny Bench Award will be revealed on June 4.

Diaz ended the regular season, hitting at a .340 clip with 48 runs driven in. The Miami native also ranks top-10 in the country in hit-by-pitch with a school record 20 thus far. Diaz has nine home runs and 19 doubles, while behind the dish he is gunning down runners at over a 45-percent rate.
