IRVING, Texas - The Louisiana Tech baseball team has earned the 2013-14 Conference USA Sport Academic Award for academic excellence throughout the school year, announced by the league office on Monday.
The C-USA Sport Academic Award is given annually to the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest grade point average for the academic year.
LA Tech's baseball squad posted a 3.148 team GPA for the 2013-14 season to beat out the 12 remaining C-USA baseball programs. The Diamond 'Dogs were the only LA Tech team to earn the academic accolade in Louisiana Tech's first year as a member of the league.
Rice produced three different teams with the highest GPA for their respective sports, while Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, Tulane and Tulsa had two apiece.
The Golden Hurricane also earned the 2013-14 Conference USA Institutional Excellence Award, which is given to the C-USA institution with the highest grade point average during the academic year for all student-athletes in conference-sponsored sports. Tulsa student-athletes combined for an annual GPA of 3.145.
Four teams were repeat winners from a season ago. The following is a list of all the Sport Academic Award honorees:
