Baseball to Begin 12th Annual Fall World Series Friday

Oct. 22, 2013

RUSTON, La. - Head coach Wade Simoneaux and the Louisiana Tech baseball team will conclude its fall season with the 12th annual Fall World Series set to begin at 6 p.m. Friday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

The series will last from Oct. 25 to Nov. 3 and feature the Tech Gray team competing against the Tech Black team, with both teams being selected and split up by the eight seniors on the this year's team in the annual senior draft held this past Monday night.

Both teams were assembled by a group of eight seniors from this year's squad with Ben Carlisle, Richie Navari, Tyler Ervine and Taylor Burch leading the Black team in the series.

As for the Gray team, Luke Giddens, Stephen Gandy, Tyler Qualls and Ryan Jones will act as senior coaches during the fall series.

"This year's series should be interesting with a lot of new faces," Simoneaux said. "We have a lot of young arms and faces after losing three juniors to the draft and nine seniors. I am anxious to see what they can do in a game setting. We have several injuries right now with five or six guys either being held out or limited. We will play all seven games and I am hoping this series will answer a lot of questions we have going into the spring."

The annual Fall World Series will feature four nine-inning and three seven-inning games over the course of a week and a half with rules in place in order to maximize playing time for all of the players participating. All seven games will be played regardless of the outcome.

The winning team of the series will be treated to a steak dinner, while the losing squad receives pork and beans at the conclusion of the series.

Admission to all the Fall World Series games is free and open to all fans wanting a preview of the 2014 Bulldog baseball season.

Live stats will be available on GameTracker for each game of the series except Games 3 and 4 scheduled for Oct. 27 and Oct. 30.
