Opening Statement:

“I thought it was a great game and a great showcase for our league. We lost to a good team tonight. I am proud of our guys for the way we battled. There were moments where it would have been easy to pack it in and say ‘Hey, they got us tonight.’ But we fought. I am happy with the way we defended overall and rebounded with them. We just could not get into a great rhythm offensively. Credit to them for the way they played defense. We have to bounce back. We have a big game here in two days.”

On Old Dominion Defense:

“They are very good defensively. They played exactly the way we expected them to. We knew they would play man-to-man. We knew they would do very little switching. The play a certain way that forces you to make a lot of threes and we made a good number. We made eight tonight, but we needed a couple more. We needed to get a couple more runouts. We just did not. They sent several guys back. We rebounded better because of it. They did not crash the glass as much as they normally do. They focused on our transition and did a good job. We did not get to the foul line as much tonight. We normally score a lot of points there.”

On pace of play:

“It is something that they are good at. We knew we were not going to get to 74 possessions tonight, just because of the way they play offense. They were going to try and grind the clock and get offensive rebounds. They try to keep you on defense. In our press, the way they passed it back and forth, we were not able to come up with those turnovers. They are a team that does not turn it over very much. Credit to them for their game plan and credit to our guys who have been in some games like this and been successful. We just were not able to make enough plays there at the end.”

On Old Dominion run:

“Basketball is a game of runs. We had a few. They had a few. We were down nine with around eight minutes to go. We were able to take the lead and then they made a couple of plays. It was like a heavyweight fight. Each team threw a few punches and they connected more than us.”

On locker room atmosphere:

“The guys are hurt. We all are. We want to play well. We take a lot of pride in playing here at home. It is one of those conference games and you want to come away on the right side. It is going to hurt for a little while. I was proud of their effort and the way they fought back. We have to do the very same thing tomorrow in preparing for Charlotte.”

On players stepping up:

“I think every game we need more than one, two or three. It is not just scoring. We need a collective effort from everyone. I thought we got a great effort; our execution just needs some work against a team like this. They are a very good team. Of course, we need contributions from everybody.
