Opening Statement:

“I thought it was a tale of two halves in many ways. There were several runs by both teams in the game. I thought we started both halves very aggressive and had some nice scoring runs. Like we told the team, UTSA has some guards that can really score. We stopped them just enough to win the ball game.”

On late possessions:

“At halftime we told them that we have to be better defensively. We have to get to these shooters. They were hurting us in the pick and roll. We have to keep taking care of the basketball, because they were not turning it over. Those guards just do not turn it over much. They keep it in their hands and control the game. They make a lot of shots. Down the stretch, UTSA buried some threes. We were a little sloppy with the basketball and we fouled an awful lot. Thankfully, we were able to make some free throws and make a couple key plays down the stretch to win the game.”

On all five starters being in double figures:

“If we can have that type of balance, that means we are hitting on all cylinders. We had 22 assists tonight; I think that is a record for us, out of 27 made field goals. That is also what we would like it to be. We got to the free throw line a good bit. I thought offensively we were in a pretty good flow and guys were doing what they do best. Jacobi was hitting shots. Erik was hitting shots. Merrill was at the rim and got the nice dunk. Alex had 11 assists. Derric came off the bench and had five assists. We got great contributions from everyone.”

On Jacobi Boykins:

“Most of it is [him shooting extra shots]. When you see that ball go into the basketball hundreds of times, that is a great recipe. We have also tried to do a couple things to give him a good look early. When that first ball goes in the basket for everyone, you know your hard work is paying off. He has put in an extreme amount of work. Our assistant coaches have spent a lot of time with him, to get off all of those shots. I was happy to see it work out tonight.”
