Post-Game Quotes

Feb. 11, 2016

On the keys to victory:

“I thought our energy defensively really for almost the entire game was where we want it to be. I thought we set the tone in the first half and we were able to keep that going in the second with some moments here and there. That is a good team. They are a very good offensive team and they certainly made some plays, but I thought our guys were really motivated to have a good defensive game.”

On the team playing together:

“We constantly talk about playing together and that if we can get 16 assists, we are in really good shape. We got 17 tonight. We turned it over too many times but I thought those early turnovers gave us good experience to then attack their pressure better as the game went on. Then the guys just really looked for each other, found great shots for each other, and I thought that was big.”

On playing well defensively:

“We knew Middle Tennessee was 16-0 when they shoot over 40 percent, so we set that benchmark that if we can get under 40 then 39.7 was good enough. I felt good about our team today at the shoot-around, at the pregame meal. They had a lot of energy. You could feel that they were excited to play and they were ready. I know it was a good feeling to have and I am so thankful they came through with it tonight because I thought they played with great energy.”

On having Karl Malone, Speedy Smith and Michale Kyser in attendance:

“I think they certainly fed off seeing their friends, seeing Karl, seeing all the people in the arena tonight. I thought our fans were great. Our student section; we had so many people there tonight. It was wonderful. I think there is just a great energy here and it was really nice to see Speedy and Mike and Karl. I have communicated with all of them but it was my first time meeting Speedy in person and Karl as well, so that was really nice.”

On playing UAB Saturday:

“I think every game in the standings counts as one. You beat a good team and it does not count as two or three. In games you might have a little bit more excitement for just out of human nature, you have to be making sure that you really just make the simple plays. It is not about trying to do anything spectacular. It is just to play our game and play very hard, play with great energy and play for each other. That is really our goal every time out and that is what we want to work on tomorrow in practice and get prepared for Saturday.”
