"We knew East Carolina was a very dangerous team. They are very good offensively. They have a tremendous shooter. I like their young talent, their team speed and quickness. Hats off to them in that they continued to fight and play extremely hard. I thought that the way they handled the ball tonight against our pressure was fantastic. We, unfortunately, have to rely on turnovers and we could not muster up enough. Their zone was effective, really stifling us offensively for the better part of the game."
On ECU's Michael Zangari:
"I was surprised that he was as much of a factor. They do not call his number a bunch. I thought that he did a terrific job on the offensive glass. He had six offensive rebounds, five at halftime. It is not like they were calling plays for him, he was just taking advantage of that ball being up on the rim and him beating our big to a loose ball. You have to tip your hat off to a guy who gets 15 rebounds anytime. He played extremely hard and with the upmost physicality and legal physicality. He did a good job of anchoring their zone on the interior as well."
On having to adjust the defense due to Caleb White:
"I think we did an okay job on [Akeem] Richmond. I just thought those other guys played well. They run good stuff and they got those guys shots. They took advantage. We were hugging Richmond and not allow him much space but that is what every team in our league has done just about, whether in zone or man. You have to have ultimate awareness with Akeem Richmond and the fact that he got off 10 three's is, for us, in how we played this game is unacceptable. We allowed driving lanes for Robinson and White. There was not as big of an emphasis on Zangari and Caleb White who I think is a tremendous young talent."
On the amount of three's taken:
"I think my line verbatim five minutes before the game was let's not jack up 30 three's. We had to have an inside presence against their zone. I thought we did a decent job of that though to be honest. When you are playing from behind like that late second half, you tend to let it fly a little quicker and a little deeper. We tried to get it inside. I thought they did a good job with their guards laying on our interior people, in the circle and in the short corner. In addition, I thought their wings did a great job with their close outs."
On the difference being not making perimeter shots:
"We were not able to collapse the zone enough. They did a good job of defending our actions. We did not get any easy ones around the basket. It seems like whenever our front court people got dump offs, or got inside/outside action near the rim, when they were gathering their closing speed was really good. I just thought they played really hard. They deserved to win."
