Head coach Michael White post-game press conference
"Old Dominion was absolutely terrific. I thought the arena was electric a few times and it was definitely a factor. More of a factor was Jeff [Jones] and Old Dominion and how they defended us, how they executed on offense and the poise and toughness that they played with. There is a reason they hardly lose at home. They are very, very good. I do not draw a lot of positives from this one. I just thought they beat us in every facet of the game."
On having just five assists:
"Their defensive transition numbers are through the roof. They are very disciplined that way. They have tremendous team speed and quickness and girth. As Jeff [Jones] likes to say, they just wall you off. They do it collectively. I thought we shared the ball, we just did not get an assist because they did not lead to a made field goal."
On shot selection:
"They are terrific defensively, especially at home. They are one of the better defensive mid-major teams in college basketball. I thought we had a few looks that you have to make against these guys or else you are in trouble. They have an ability to keep you out of the paint and also fly at you and close out quickly on jump shots."
On being unable to cut into the lead in the second half:
"I would credit [Trey] Freeman and [Aaron] Bacote. I thought those guys had tremendous poise, especially Freeman. He had the ball in his hands more than anybody else. We have had the ability to rattle a lot of guards, especially when playing from behind, and we just did not have that effect on them. We threw a bunch of different guys at him and none of it seemed to work."
On if the early start and the second part of a road trip were a factor:
"We can make excuses, but we looked lethargic because we were down 11-0. I just think Old Dominion punched us right in the face and we were throwing soft jabs. It was an uphill battle for 35 minutes. The start that we got off to really hurt us, but it was the start that they got off to as well."
On still being in first place in the league with three home games left:
"We just have to regroup quickly, get home and get some rest and try to protect our home court. I am sure there will be some things on film that we can draw from this, but it is also just a reminder that our league is really good. Our league is tremendous. Thursday night we are back at home and hopefully we can find some success being back at home."
