SENIOR GUARD Alex Hamilton
On his second half performance:
"It was not anything like get me the ball more. The ball is in my hand the majority of the game, but coach Skinn pulled me to the side and said, "This is your last 20 minutes in this building so have a great one.' I took those words to heart and just came out and played hard."
On hitting a triple-double:
"No better ending. I moved up in different categories. I got the win to go out. My teammates were very supportive. We had fun. The crowd was behind us. I don't think there was any better ending."
On being in the moment for senior night:
"I had to. It was the last time I will ever play [in the Thomas Assembly Center]. I did not want to think about it too much. I just went out there and played with my friends, my teammates. We had fun and we came out on top."
On where this performance ranks:
"It has to be at the top. It was my last night. It is something I will forever remember. Not that I won't remember other moments I made with other teammates. For me and the goals that I have achieved, this is something I will remember forever."
HEAD COACH Eric Konkol
"It was an electric night, largest crowd of the season. The people were fantastic. You could really feel the energy. And Alex was spectacular. A triple-double, speed, he was tenacious all night in doing so many different things. Our guys responded too. I could sense it in the locker room that they had great energy and were really excited about this game. It was a special night."
On being part of Alex's last home game:
"This is such a short period in someone's life, but it is one that you always remember. His period of life at Louisiana Tech has been very special. I saw Alex play as a high school player on the AAU scene and to see him grow and the impact he has had on the school with his individual records, but then he is the all-time winningest Bulldog here too. He has really lifted up this team. He has been a great leader. I feel very honored to have coached him this year."
On where Alex ranks:
"I made the comment that the Lakers get Kobe Bryant for 20 years, but I only get Alex for one. I have said this many times. He is one of the best downhill drivers I have been around. The one play where he made one little move and just soared right to the rim with speed. He is right up there as one of the best [that I have coached].
On limiting Rice's Marcus Evans:
"We work on a lot of efficiency numbers and Rice was scoring 1.2 points per possession over the last four games and they had won four in a row. Marcus Evans was averaging 30 points per game in the last three. It was a huge part of our game plan. He only had four points at halftime. Then I challenged the team to be ready because he is going to put the guys on his shoulders to try and score. He ended up with 18, but he had to take a lot of shots. I was really proud of our guys. I thought we were connected defensively. I thought there was great energy. We held them under one point per possession and that is always a goal of ours. I thought it was a great collective effort."
On the first half:
"If we could that every night I will sign up. I think some of it too is the style. Rice is very fast in the way they play. We knew it was going to be a very up-and-down game. I told the guys that we need to bring our track shoes. We cannot warm up as the game begins because it is going to be fast and it was. We were very fast as well."
On moving forward in the season:
"We want to celebrate this today. You always hope you can build confidence from something like this where we were able to piece together a good game. Now we have to do that on the road. That is always a challenge. It has been a challenge for us all year. We have to really bottle this up, this type of energy and effort and execution."
