EL PASO, Texas - LA Tech defeated Southern Miss, 88-70, Friday night to advance to the C-USA Championship in El Paso, Texas. The Bulldogs face Tulsa at 10:30 a.m. CT Saturday morning in a nationally televised game on CBS.

  • With the 88-70 win, Louisiana Tech snapped the two-game skid versus Southern Miss but the Golden Eagles still hold the all-time series lead, 43-30. 
  • LA Tech improves to 27-6 on the season, matching last season's win total, and extends its winning streak to six.
  • Southern Miss falls to 27-6 on the season, ending its six-game winning streak.
  • LA Tech starters were Alex Hamilton, Michale Kyser, Kenneth Smith, Chris Anderson and Jaron Johnson.  This is the 12th straight game with this starting lineup.
  • LA Tech is now 24-0 this season when leading at halftime. The Bulldogs held a 32-26 advantage going into the break.
  • The LA Tech defense forced 21 turnovers, improving its record to 22-0 when forcing at least 15 in a game.  It also marked the sixth time this season they have forced at least 20.
  • LA Tech scored at least 50 points in the second half for the second straight game of the tournament.  The Bulldogs put up 56 against the Golden Eagles which marked the 11th time this season with scoring 50+ in a half.
  • The Bulldogs had five players in double-figures, led by Alex Hamilton who had a game-high 19 points.
  • Alex Hamilton connected on four three-pointers, a new career-high for the sophomore.
  • Kenneth Smith connected on four three-pointers, tying his season-high, to help register 16 points and also dished out 10 assists for his fourth career double-double. 
  • With the 10 assists by Smith, he has now recorded at least eight in 15 of the last 16 games.
  • The Bulldogs hit 11 three-pointers for the game.  That marked the seventh time this season they have connected for at least 10 in a game. 
  • Michale Kyser pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
