Mike White Post Central Michigan

Opening Statement:

"That was a really good win for us. I thought we played very well. That was as well as we have played offensively all year. Defensively, we had some breakdowns as I think most teams in the country would have trying, to defend Central Michigan. They are incredible offensively. All three of their guards were really good, getting 18, 20 and 21 [points]. They are a handful to contain off of the bounce. They can all score it and pass it. The key to the game for us was defending the three. We actually did a very good job defending the three. We kept their specialists in check, which gave us a chance. Again, offensively we were just in a pretty good rhythm all game, led by Raheem and Speedy. Raheem was very efficient. Speedy had 13 assists, which he makes look easy. Our third senior, Mike Kyser, was very good. These three seniors led us with mentality more than anything, in terms of taking advantage of playing in a prestigious tournament that does not happen to be the NCAA Tournament. These three guys were really down the past few days, but they showed their true colors and maturity tonight. I was really pleased with the way our supporting cast, supported these three seniors."

"I am as proud of our guys as I have been in a while. Against Southern Miss, I do not think we played great, but we played well enough to cut the nets down. The game before that against UTSA, we just kind of held on after the great performance on Thursday night against UTEP. For the first time since UTEP, I can honestly say we were pretty good tonight. In the conference tournament we struggled against Rice. It was not our best game. We played well enough to advance. Against UAB we played with a ton of energy and effort in the last 15 minutes, but just did not play well enough to advance. Tonight was one of our better games in its entirety."

On underclassmen:

"I am not happy with them, I am mad we did not see this earlier. They were great. It is exciting when you think about the future. We will find out who we are playing here soon and we will turn our attention to our next opponent. It is exciting to see Qiydar Davis play above the rim and Jacobi Boykins and Xavian Stapleton step up and hit shots. Dayon Griffin made some big plays. Merrill Holden did a good job of moving his feet. We have a couple of other young guys who did not get any opportunity, but it is exciting. Most exciting is the mentality that they showed and the loyalty to their senior teammates that are on their way out. I thought they fought for them."

On bouncing back from UAB:

"I thought we were pretty good yesterday. When we were watching the NIT selection show a couple of nights ago, I was not real confident we were excited to be in the NT. We came in the next day, yesterday, and because of that feeling we had as a staff, we watched film from the UAB game. We were not going to watch it and just move on. I honestly did not watch the UAB game until yesterday. I did not want to watch it. I thought watching those clips yesterday helped us accept the fact that we made our own bed. We made our own bed, we have to lay in it and man up. There were a lot of things we could have done a little bit better. The ball will keep bouncing and we have another great opportunity right in front of us. I thought we had a pretty good workout yesterday. I was still a little hesitant to feel like we were going to play great, but when our crowd started chanting about 20 seconds before the tip, I was confident we were going to play with a lot of energy. That was awesome. It was the best atmosphere we have had in here since I have been here. I cannot tell you how appreciative I am to all of our fans, students and administration for putting this thing together and creating this atmosphere in a really quick turnaround."

On defense:

"They are so hard to defend. The fact we were as good as we were offensively, really won us the game. I cannot sit here and tell you that we played great defense. We defended the three at a high level, but those three guards, it reminds me of the Iona game last year. Both teams struggled to keep guards out of the paint."

On Jacobi Boykins:

"He was terrific. I thought we did a good job of finding him after he got into a rhythm. That is the benefit of having some experienced veteran guards. It was not just Speedy, Raheem found him a couple of times when he had space and probably could have squeezed one off but knew Jacobi had a hot hand. He is a really good shooter. He has size too, with a quick release. That was a glimpse of what he can become on a more frequent base in the future."
