Hamilton Named C-USA Co-Player of the Week
Jan. 4, 2016
RUSTON – After flirting with triple-doubles in both victories this past week, Alex Hamilton earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors.
For the week, the senior guard averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 assists, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game in helping the Bulldogs maintain the second longest home winning streak in the country which is at 39 games.
In the 77-58 win over Prairie View A&M, he set the program record for most career free throws made (making No. 471) while also registering his third double-double of the season with 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 10 assists to go along with seven rebounds.
The Chipley, Florida native was held in check offensively the following game against Southern Miss, but he got to the charity stripe on numerous occasions where he added to his new free throw record by going 12-of-12, becoming the sixth Bulldog in program history to shoot 100 percent with a minimum of 12 free throw attempts.
Hamilton finished the league opener with 14 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and four steals in the 87-57 victory.
On defense, he helped the Bulldogs force a combined 38 turnovers while limiting both the Panthers and Golden Eagles under 60 points.
This was the second C-USA Player of the Week honor of the season for Hamilton and the sixth of his career. He shared this week’s award with Adrian Diaz of FIU.
Hamilton will lead the 12-2 Bulldogs into Thursday night when they host Old Dominion at 8 p.m. in a nationally-televised game on CBS Sports Network.
