Stapleton Named C-USA Freshman of the Week
Jan. 5, 2015
IRVING, Texas - It was not a matter of if but when one of Louisiana Tech's star freshmen would be named by Conference USA as Freshman of the Week.
That honor, voted on by media representatives from all 14 league schools, was earned by shooting guard Xavian Stapleton after totaling 33 points in two victories this past week.
With a loaded Bulldog backcourt, Stapleton has been making the most of his opportunity while coming off the bench.
In the 19 minutes played a week ago against Southern Arkansas, he came into the game and shot 5-of-10 from the field to help him tally 16 points while also setting new career-highs in blocks (two) and steals (three).
The Flora, Mississippi native then participated in his first ever conference game which took place in his home state versus Southern Miss. He came off the bench to register 17 points while seeing a career-high 21 minutes of action.
He drained four three-pointers in the process, marking the second time this season he has hit at least four in a single game. The freshman also led the team in rebounding against USM with six boards, including five offensive rebounds.
He will be an important part of the Bulldogs roster throughout C-USA play which continues on Thursday, Jan. 8 in an 8 p.m. CT tipoff at UTEP.
