Bulldogs Looking For First WAC Road Win At Fresno State

Louisiana Tech looks to bounce back on a winning track Saturday as Fresno State plays host to the Bulldogs in a 9 p.m. contest at the Save Mart Center.

Tech stands at 7-6 overall and 1-2 in the Western Athletic Conference while Fresno State is 7-5 and 3-0.

The Bulldogs have dropped two straight WAC games, losing 89-77 at home to Rice and 71-67 on the road last Thursday to Nevada.

Fresno State has won five straight games and is 4-3 at home on the season.

Freshman forward Paul Millsap, the No. 1 rebounder in NCAA statistics, leads Louisiana Tech with 15.6 points and 12.7 rebounds per game while junior guard Donell Allick is adding 13.1 ppg.

Millsap also ranks No. 2 in NCAA field goal percentage at .684 (78-of-114 field goal attempts).

The contest will pit the WAC's top rebounding team in Tech at 42.2 boards per game against the league's top rebound defense team in Fresno State, which is holding opponents to 28.8 boards per game.

"Our team has done some good things in our first three WAC games," Tech coach Keith Richard said. "We'd like to get a win on the road, so we'll need to put a complete 40 minutes of strong play together to try and beat the best team in the conference so far."

Renaldo Major leads FSU with 12.0 points per contest while Terry Pettis is chipping in with 12.0 ppg for Fresno.

Louisiana Tech leads Fresno State 5-3 in a series which began in NCAA tournament first-round play in 1984. Fresno State had won two straight, including a 61-60 decision in Ruston on Jan. 18 of last year, before the Bulldogs pulled off an 80-77 win in Fresno on Feb. 13 of last year.

Tech won the last meeting between the teams, pulling off an 80-77 win on Feb. 13, 2003 in Fresno.
