Jan. 12, 2015
RUSTON - Louisiana Tech's Raheem Appleby earned the Conference USA Player of the Week award, announced by the league, and the Louisiana College Player of the Week award, announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
The senior guard continued to make his presence felt in C-USA after missing most of LA Tech's inaugural season last year with an ankle injury. He led the Bulldogs to two road wins, 58-45 against UTEP and 84-72 against UTSA, while averaging 23.5 points per game on 64 percent shooting from the field.
Despite being face guarded for almost the entire game, the Jacksonville, Ark. native scored a game-high 22 points against the Miners. He was 9-of-12 shooting, a career-best shooting percentage when taking at least 12 shots in a game. He also tied his season-high with five rebounds.
Two days later, he continued to stay hot by scoring a game-high 25 against the Roadrunners, including five three-pointers.
While totaling the 65 minutes of action he also had the impressive stat of not registering a single turnover and became just the 15th Bulldog to eclipse 1,500 career points.
Appleby shared the C-USA award with George Fant of WKU and the LSWA award with Marvin Williams of ULM.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, Jan. 15 in a 7 p.m. matchup with UAB. The game will be televised live on ASN.
