RUSTON, La. -
Louisiana Tech will try to extend its 10-game winning streak with a game at San Jose State on Thursday at 9 p.m. CT.
The Bulldogs will then continue their road trip to Hawai'i for a game against the Rainbow Warriors on Saturday.
"It is a very tough and demanding trip," head coach Kerry Rupp said, "but everything we've done up till this point will help us with that. It will be a good opportunity to see how well we can come together as a team because you find that out on the road."
The Bulldogs are 17-2 overall and 5-0 in the Western Athletic Conference after an 81-73 win over Fresno State last Thursday. Senior Kyle Gibson continues to lead the WAC in scoring after a career-high 32 points against the Bulldogs. He ranks eighth in the NCAA in scoring with 21.7 points per game.
The Spartans are 9-8 overall and 2-3 in the WAC and boast the second-leading scorer in the conference in guard Adrian Oliver. The junior is averaging 20.9 points per game and had a 33-point outpouring against Boise State earlier this season. Senior center Chris Oakes leads the WAC in rebounding with 10.3 per game and is averaging a double-double with 10.9 points per game.
"The Spartans are very talented and they have most of their players back from last season," Rupp said. "They have a great wing player in Oliver so we'll have to contain him. They also have two big physical guys inside so it will be a battle for the boards. We've got to bring a great deal of energy and enthusiasm."
LA Tech is 14-0 when winning the rebounding battle and are outrebounding their opponents by an average of 5.4 per game. The Bulldogs are also putting up a lot of points as their 80.1 point average is the 24th best mark in the country. It is a significant jump up from last season's average of 63.3.
Tech leads the all-time series with the Spartans 10-6, but SJSU won the last meeting 53-51 in Ruston. The series has a history of close game as the last six meetings between the two schools have been decided by 10 points or less.
The contest can be heard live throughout the LA Tech Sports Network, including KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston), KBYO 92.7 FM (Monroe/Farmerville) and KLKL 95.7 FM (Shreveport).
