Hamilton Sweeps Weekly Awards
Jan. 19, 2015
RUSTON - Louisiana Tech's Alex Hamilton earned his third Conference USA Player of the Week honor and his first Louisiana Sports Writer's Association Player of the Week honor announced Monday.
The junior averaged 25 points on the week as LA Tech extended its home winning streak to 22 games and improved to 5-0 in C-USA play.
In Thursday's 74-71 win against UAB, Hamilton was incredibly efficient shooting the ball as he connected on 6-of-7 field goals, including all three three-pointers, to register 20 points.
The efficiency carried over into Saturday's game, but from a different area of the court. The Chipley, Fla. native set a school record with 20 made free throws (20-of-23), one shy of the league record, in a 75-68 victory over Middle Tennessee.
He finished with a season-high 30 points, the second time this year and the third time in his career he has scored at least 30 in a single game. He also tied a season high with six rebounds versus the Blue Raiders.
For the two games, he shot 69 percent (11-of-16) from the field, 100 percent (3-of-3) from beyond the arc and 86 percent (25-of-29) from the free throw line.
The C-USA weekly awards are chosen by a vote from a media panel representing the 14 member schools. The LSWA weekly awards are chosen by an LSWA panel.
Hamilton and the Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, Jan. 22 when they travel to take on North Texas at 7 p.m. in the Super Pit.
