Appleby Named to Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List
Jan. 21, 2015
BOSTON, Mass. - Louisiana Tech's Raheem Appleby was announced on Wednesday as one of 25 players to the Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List.
The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I college basketball player who has played at least two seasons. Freshmen can be named to the season-ending All-America team, but are not eligible to receive the Player of the Year honor.
Appleby is currently averaging 17.5 points per game which ranks 67th in the country.
Through five league games, the senior guard has stepped up his scoring even more with an average of 21.2 points per game while shooting 53 percent (40-of-76) from the field and 49 percent (17-of-35) from beyond the arc.
The award is named in honor of coaching great Lute Olson, who won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona.
The finalists for the 2015 Lute Olson Award will be announced in March and the recipient will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet on April 3 in Indianapolis, site of the 2015 men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
