Jan. 22, 2018
RUSTON – After helping Louisiana Tech to a home weekend sweep in week 11, forward Anthony Duruji was voted on Monday as the Conference USA Freshman of the Week.
Duruji averaged 17.5 points per game while shooting 60 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc in the victories over North Texas and Rice inside the Thomas Assembly Center. He also averaged 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game.
The Germantown, Maryland native had a career night this past Thursday against the Mean Green. He registered a career-high 25 points, including hitting two free throws with 0.9 seconds remaining to help LA Tech win, 66-65. He also tied his career high in boards (seven) and rejections (three).
The freshman turned around and had an efficient game on Saturday, recording 10 points, six rebounds and a career-high four assist in the 69-54 victory over the Owls.
This marks the first ever Freshman of the Week award for Duruji and the first Bulldog to receive a weekly honor this season.
Duruji and the Bulldogs wrap up their three-game home stand on Saturday, Jan. 27 when they host Southern Miss at 6 p.m.
