McCree Earns LSWA Co-Player of the Week Honors

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech’s Erik McCree registered two double-digit scoring performances this past week, helping the forward earn the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
The redshirt senior averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in helping lead LA Tech to two convincing wins at home this past week over Rice and North Texas.
On Thursday night against the Owls, McCree posted a game-high 19 points in the 10-point win. He also pulled down six rebounds and tied his career high with four steals, helping hold the 19th highest scoring offense in the country to 20 points below their season average.
On Saturday night, the Orlando, Florida native registered his ninth double-double of the season (leads Conference USA) with 14 points and 13 boards. Eleven of the 13 boards came in the first half alone.
On defense, McCree and the Bulldogs limited North Texas to just 57 points, marking the ninth time this season LA Tech has held its opponent to under 60 points.
He shared this week’s award with Brandon Moss of LSU-Alexandria and James Sapp of Centenary. This marks the fourth time this season (out of seven) that McCree has garnered this award.
McCree and the ‘Dogs will be on the road on Thursday, Jan. 28 taking on UAB. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. in a matchup that will be broadcast by the American Sports Network.
