Bulldogs Looking for Repeat Victory Over Fresno State
FRESNO, Calif. -- After putting together the best first half of the season last night against San Jose State, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (13-7; 6-1 WAC) are looking to continue success offensively tomorrow night when they travel to Fresno State (10-7; 3-3 WAC) for their second match-up of the 2005-06 season in the Save Mart Center at 9 p.m.
The Tech Bulldogs are looking to extend their winning streak to three games and win their seventh of the last eight games. Tech came off a routing of San Jose State Thursday night after outscoring the Spartans 48-28 in the first half before winning 75-55.
Fresno State was also successful last night when the New Mexico State Aggies paid a visit by a final score of 75-72. The Tech Bulldogs also were successful earlier in the year against the Aggies, winning 66-61 Jan. 21 in the Thomas Assembly Center.
Tech’s star junior forward and two-time defending NCAA rebounding champion Paul Millsap had a quiet game against San Jose State by his standards, scoring 10 points and pull down six rebounds; half his total averages per game for this season.
Junior forward Chad McKenzie did have a career night with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists in the win over San Jose State, while true freshman point guard Drew Washington also scored a career high with nine points.
The Tech Bulldog’s defense stymied Fresno State’s offense by holding their two leading scorers Ja’Vance Coleman and Quinton Hoseley to a total of four points for the game and holding the team that averages 74.6 points per game for the season to only 54.
Hoseley and Coleman are averaging 19.6 and 17.1 points per game in regular season play and 20.2 and 15.2 in conference play.
