RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech junior forward Olu Ashaolu was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week on Monday for his performance during the week of Jan. 24-30.
For the week, Ashaolu averaged 19.5 points on 56 percent shooting from the field and averaged 14 rebounds while leading the Bulldogs to a 2-0 record.
The Toronto native scored 24 points and 18 rebounds in Tech's first Western Athletic Conference win of the season, a 71-56 victory over Idaho. He then scored 15 points and brought down 10 rebounds in the Bulldogs' 70-60 win over Boise State.
With two double-doubles this past week, Ashaolu brought his total to 13 for the season, a number that ranks as the seventh best in the NCAA.
It is the second LSWA award of the season for Ashaolu who was also been named a WAC Player of the Week earlier this season.
Louisiana Tech is 11-12 overall and 2-7 in the WAC and next plays at Fresno State on Saturday at 10 p.m. CT in a game that will be broadcast on ESPNU.
