RUSTON -- For the second time this season, Louisiana Tech (4-18; 1-9 WAC) will square off against New Mexico State (14-12; 8-3 WAC); this time in Ruston at the Thomas Assembly Center and on Cox Sports TV at 7 p.m.
This past season, the Aggies survived a scare from the Bulldogs in the Pan American Center before finally pulling away in the final minutes of the game to win 63-54.
The Bulldogs and the Aggies have met eight times dating back to the 1977-78 season when NMSU beat the Bulldogs in Las Cruces, N.M., by a final score of 69-51. New Mexico State leads that all-time series record with Tech 6-2.
Tech picked up its first conference win of the season Saturday against the Idaho Vandals by a final score of 72-64. New Mexico State is on a three-game winning streak having most recently beaten Boise State 99-80 Saturday.
Last season, Bulldog fans were treated to a 33-point performance from 2007 senior Trey McDowell as Tech upset a hot Aggies team in overtime by a final score of 73-71. The Aggies, however, have won two straight over the Bulldogs including a 77-70 win in the 2007 WAC Tournament.
Sophomore Kyle Gibson leads Bulldog scorers at 15.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. The Aggies are led by Justin Hawkins at 17.4 points per game.
Tip off is set for 7:05 p.m. and can be seen live on Cox Sports TV local channel 26. The game will also be broadcast live on ESPN 97.7 FM and live via the internet at www.espn977.com with a video stream at www.latechtv.com.
