Feb. 22, 2016
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech’s Alex Hamilton was named on Monday as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week in a release by the organization.
For the week, Hamilton averaged 23.5 points per game while shooting a blistering 69 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. He also stuffed the stat sheet by averaging 5.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.0 steals per game.
The senior was extremely efficient in an 87-74 road win over UTSA on Thursday, going 10-of-11 from the field. He also finished with six assists, five boards and a career-tying five steals.
Despite the loss on Saturday at UTEP, the Chipley, Florida native poured in 22 points while making a season-high three three-pointers. Twenty of the 22 came in the second stanza when the Bulldogs made a late rally.
In totaling 47 points this weekend, Hamilton moved into fifth on the all-time career scoring list, passing Gerrod Henderson (1998-02). He currently has 1,836 career points and has now recorded 20+ scoring performances in 11 games this season, including five of the last six.
He shared this week’s LSWA Player of the Week award with ULM’s Nick Coppola.
The duo were nominated by their school’s respective sports information directors and selected by a statewide panel of media members. The weekly award was the third for Hamilton in 2015-16 which is tied for the most of any player in Louisiana.
Hamilton and the Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, Feb. 25 when they host North Texas. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the American Sports Network.
