RUSTON, La. - On Saturday afternoon the Louisiana Tech men's basketball team will host Hawaii at 3 p.m. in the Thomas Assembly Center on Senior Day as seniors Trevor Gaskins and Romario Souza will be honored prior to the start of the contest.
The game will also be part of the Coaches vs. Cancer: Suits & Sneakers campaign benefitting the American Cancer Society as members of the LA Tech coaching staff will be wearing sneakers to help raise the awareness of the fight against the deadly disease.
Fans can donate money at the entrance to the Thomas Assembly Center and anyone donating $3 or more will automatically qualify for a drawing for two free roundtrip airline tickets courtesy of AllegiantAir or a 46-inch flatscreen TV courtesy of Wal-Mart. Members of the Bulldog football team will be at each entrance selling raffle tickets and collecting donations.
LA Tech enters Saturday's game with a 14-14 record and is currently in sixth place in the Western Athletic Conference standings at 4-7 after a 75-49 victory over San Jose State on Thursday night. Tech has a one-game lead over seventh place Fresno State and are a game behind Utah State for fifth place.
Freshman Raheem Appleby leads the Bulldogs and is eighth in the conference in scoring at 14.2 points per game while Gaskins and sophomore Cordarius Johnson are also averaging double-figures in scoring with 10.4 and 10.3 points per contest, respectively.
The Rainbow Warriors (15-12, 6-5) are coming off a 115-73 defeat at the hands of New Mexico State Thursday night. They are led by Vander Joaquim with 14.6 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.
Zane Johnson (14.1 ppg) and Joston Thomas (14.0 ppg) are also averaging double-digits in scoring and Jeremiah Ostrowski is dishing out 6.5 assists per contest.
The game can be heard on KXKZ 107.5 FM and KJVC 92.7 FM with the "Voice of the Bulldogs" Dave Nitz and Jack Thigpen calling the action with the pregame show beginning at 2:30 p.m. LA Tech All-Access subscribers can watch a live video stream of the action through LATechSports.com, the official home of Louisiana Tech Athletics.
The game will also be shown on COX Sports Television, ESPN Regional Television and ESPN Full Court with Trey Bender and Ben Ebong on the air.
