Hamilton Garners C-USA Player of the Week Honors
Feb. 29, 2016
RUSTON – After registering only the third triple-double in program history and the first since 1991, Louisiana Tech’s Alex Hamilton was voted as the Conference USA Player of the Week chosen by a media panel representing the 14 league schools.
For the week, the senior guard averaged 22.0 points per game while shooting 65 percent from the field and 75 percent from three-point range. He also averaged 9.5 rebounds, 9.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in the victories over North Texas and Rice.
The Chipley, Florida native came up big against the Mean Green on Thursday, scoring the game-tying layup with 12 seconds left in regulation that would ultimately send the game into overtime. In the extra period, he had four points and two assists during a 10-0 run to help the Bulldogs gut out the 73-62 win.
His stat line was close to that of a triple-double with 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
Then on Saturday in his last game inside the Thomas Assembly Center, Hamilton had one of his greatest performances as he reached the triple-double milestone with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in an 88-69 win over the Owls.
He became one of just 20 players in NCAA Division I this season to post a triple-double. It was also only the 18th triple-double in C-USA history.
This was Hamilton’s third player of the week award this season and the seventh of his career.
Hamilton will lead LA Tech into the final two games of the regular season. The first matchup is Thursday, March 3 at Marshall with tipoff set for 6 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live on the American Sports Network.
