Hamilton, McCree Earn All-Conference USA Honors

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech’s Alex Hamilton and Erik McCree received All-Conference USA honors, announced by the league office on Monday in a vote by the head coaches and media representatives from each school.
Hamilton was named to the five-person first team, marking the third straight season he has received all-conference accolades which makes him just the 19th player in program history to do so.
The senior guard ranks fourth in the league in points per game (20.0), 19th in rebounds per game (5.7), first in assists per game (6.23) and second in steals per game (2.06).
He produced four 30+ scoring performances which is tied for the most in the league. Two of those have come in the last two games where he posted a career-high 38 points at Marshall and followed that up with a 33-point effort at WKU.
The Chipley, Florida native also registered just the third triple-double in program history and only the 18th in C-USA history when he recorded 25 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists versus Rice in what was his final game inside the Thomas Assembly Center.
Joining him on the first team were James Kelly (Marshall), Trey Freeman (Old Dominion), Marcus Evans (Rice) and Robert Brown (UAB).
McCree was named to the five-person second team, the first ever all-conference honor for the redshirt junior, along with Joseph Uchebo (Charlotte), Adrian Diaz (FIU), Jeremy Combs (North Texas) and Chris Cokley (UAB).
He was a two-time C-USA Player of the Week selection and was one of only two players in the league to rank in the top eight in points (16.5) and rebounds (7.5) per game.
The Orlando, Florida native posted a team-high eight double-doubles this season, tied for the fifth most in C-USA. He also had 10 games of 20+ points, one of which was a career-high 33 points in a win over regular season champion UAB.
UAB led the way with four all-conference selections. LA Tech and Middle Tennessee tied for the second most with two while seven other league schools each had one.
As the No. 4 seed in the C-USA Tournament set to take place in Birmingham, Alabama, the Bulldogs will face either ODU, UTSA or Florida Atlantic on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. inside Legacy Arena (BJCC) in the quarterfinals.
