March 8, 2016
RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech’s Alex Hamilton has been selected to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-District Team for District VII based on voting from its members, it was announced by the national organization Tuesday.
Hamilton becomes the first Bulldog since Paul Millsap (2005-06) to earn USBWA All-District honors, while the senior was the only player from Conference USA selected to the all-district teams.
He is currently one of just two players in the country to rank in the top 30 in total points, assists and steals, while Hamilton has averaged 28.8 points in the last four games, including a triple-double, a career-high 38 at Marshall and 33 at WKU. With back-to-back 30-plus point performances, Hamilton became the first player since Randy White in 1989 to achieve that feat.
Hamilton currently ranks fourth in Conference USA in points per game (20.0), 19th in rebounds per game (5.7), first in assists per game (6.23) and second in steals per game (2.06). A native of Chipley, Florida, Hamilton produced four 30+ scoring performances this season which is tied for the most in the league.
Hamilton also registered just the third triple-double in program history and only the 18th in C-USA history when he recorded 25 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists versus Rice in what was his final game inside the Thomas Assembly Center.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. Today, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball.
The Bulldogs are set to face ODU, UTSA or Florida Atlantic at 2:30 p.m. Thursday inside Legacy Arena (BJCC) in the quarterfinals as the No. 4 seed in the C-USA Tournament which will take place in Birmingham, Alabama.
