RUSTON – Despite being the second youngest team in the league, despite being picked seventh in the preseason poll and despite losing two seniors to season-ending injuries in the non-conference, Louisiana Tech overcame all of that to finish second in C-USA.

As a result, the Bulldogs earned themselves a first round bye and will face off against either UAB or Charlotte in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament presented by metroPCS on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. inside Legacy Arena.

The matchup will be broadcast on the American Sports Network with Dave Armstrong and Tim Scarborough calling the action. Fans can watch the live stream at americansportsnet.com.

LA Tech (22-9) is one of the hottest teams in the league right now, having won eight of its last nine games. The most recent game came this past Saturday with a dominating 93-65 victory over Southern Miss.

The Bulldogs are 3-3 all-time in the C-USA Tournament, making the finals in 2013-14 in their first year in the league, the semifinals in 2014-15 and falling in the quarterfinals last season.

Much of the young roster has not even participated in the postseason yet. Just five active players have seen playing time for a total of nine games. First Team All-CUSA selection Erik McCree has the most experience, having started in three games.

The redshirt senior who currently leads the team in scoring (17.7 ppg) and rebounding (8.7 rpg) will be relied upon in trying to lead the program to its first tournament championship and NCAA Tournament bid since 1991.

Others there to help make this happen will be Third Team All-CUSA and All-Defensive Team honoree Jacobi Boykins, C-USA Freshman of the Year DaQuan Bracey and All-Freshman Team member Jalen Harris.

LA Tech played both UAB (16-15) and Charlotte (13-16) on the road this season, winning 79-73 over the 49ers on Jan. 12 but falling 79-70 to the Blazers on Jan. 26

They have also played both teams in the conference tournament before. The Bulldogs beat the 49ers, 86-65, in the 2014 quarterfinals and lost to the Blazers in overtime, 72-62, in the 2015 semifinals.

The game can be heard live on the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston) as well as the LA Tech X Mobile app. The “Voice of the Bulldogs” Dave Nitz will call the play-by-play and Jack Thigpen will provide analysis.
