Smith, Hamilton Selected to All-Conference Teams

Sophomore guard Alex Hamilton

March 10, 2014

RUSTON - After helping lead Louisiana Tech to a share of the Conference USA regular season championship in its first year in the league, junior guard Kenneth Smith and sophomore guard Alex Hamilton were selected to the all-conference teams by the league head coaches and media members.

Smith earned first-team all-conference honors while Hamilton earned third-team all-conference honors.

This marked the second consecutive year Smith has been a member of the first team all-conference. Last season, he was selected to the first team All-Western Athletic Conference.

The junior led all C-USA players in three different categories - assists per game (7.90), steals per game (2.60) and assist/turnover ratio (3/25). All three of these statistics rank in the top-10 nationally as well.

The St. Petersburg, Fla. native recorded at least eight assists in 14 of the 16 conference games this season, posting a season-high 13 assists in back-to-back conference games versus Charlotte (1/23) and Marshall (1/25).

He also registered at least three steals in 15 games, including a C-USA single game high eight against Middle Tennessee (2/27). That mark set a new program record on top of single season program records for assists and steals set by the point guard.

Along the way, Smith also put the ball in the basket when needed as he notched three double-doubles and ranked ninth in C-USA games only with a 38.1 percent shooting mark from beyond the arc.

Hamilton earned his first all-conference honor, a year after being named to the WAC All-Newcomer team.

The guard is the only Bulldog to start every game this season and currently leads the team in scoring with an average of 14.5 points per game, good for 10th in C-USA.

The Chipley, Fla. native led LA Tech in scoring 10 different times including six of 20-plus points. He also posted his first career double-double, but his highlight of the season was the 31-point performance in the upset win at Oklahoma which earned him C-USA Player of the Week (week 10) and College Sports Madness High-Major Player of the Week.

Much of the sophomore's success has been built on driving to the basket and drawing fouls which he is currently averaging a team-best 6.5 drawn fouls per game which ranks 72nd in the country.

He currently leads the team in free throw attempts and free throw makes (146-201) with his attempts accounting for 25 percent of the team's total free throw shooting.

Hamilton did much more than score though to be honored with the award. He also ranked in the top-15 in the league in assists (3.00), steals (1.45) and assist/turnover ratio (1.43).
