LA Tech to Take Part in Inaugural Vegas 16 Tournament

March 14, 2016

RUSTON -- There will be more basketball for Louisiana Tech as the Bulldogs will take part in the inaugural Vegas 16 postseason tournament which is slated for March 28-30 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

It is an eight-team, single-elimination, three-day event with the entire tournament being broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network. LA Tech (23-9) is scheduled to face East Tennessee State (23-11) at 10:30 p.m. CT in the quarterfinals on the 28th.

“Playing in the postseason was a goal of ours at the beginning of the year and the Vegas 16 presents a great opportunity for us to do that against quality competition,” head coach Eric Konkol said.  “Unlike other postseason tournaments, playing potentially three games in three nights at a neutral site in a destination city will enhance our student-athletes experience.  It also gives us the additional practice and a chance to recover to go along with minimal class time missed.”

The field also consists of fellow Conference USA foe Old Dominion as well as Tennessee Tech, Northern Illinois, UCSB, Oakland and Towson. The average number of wins (20.9) and RPI (123) by the field is the strongest outside of the NCAA and NIT Tournaments.

This will mark the fourth straight season the Bulldogs will play in a postseason tournament. The past three seasons, the team has played in the National Invitation Tournament making it as far as the quarterfinals in 2014 and 2015.

Tournament tickets are priced from $15 per session for the tournament. All sessions include two games except for the championship game. Tickets can be purchased at the Mandalay Bay box office,,, or by calling 888-AXS-TIX.

The Mandalay Bay Events Center seats 10,000 for basketball and has played host to NBA preseason games. More information on the Vegas 16 can be found at or follow on Twitter at @VegasSixteen.
