Marshall Earns SPJ Award

RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech men's basketball senior JJ Marshall was awarded second place for Sports Column Writing by the Society of Professional Journalists in its annual Mark of Excellence Awards. Tech associate professor in the department of journalism Sallie Hollis said it is Marshall's sports writing award, and the honor reflects his hard work and dedication in the field. "Last year his column placed first in the four-state Region 12 SPJ Mark of Excellence collegiate contest and went on to national competition," Hollis said. "I think this says volumes: JJ produces good journalistic work, and he does it consistently. He follows on the heels of other Tech Talk columnists who have amassed multiple honors in strong regional and national venues." Marshall was one of three Tech students who received an award. He wrapped up his career at Tech this season appearing in 21 games and scoring a career-high 12 points thanks to 4-of-4 shooting from three-point range against New Orleans in December. |
