Bulldogs Add Power Forward in Late Signing Period

April 22, 2016

RUSTON – The front court of Louisiana Tech got a lot bigger on Friday as the Bulldogs announced the addition of power forward Omar Sherman during the late signing period.

Sherman, at 6-feet-8-inches tall and 250 pounds, played as a freshman at Miami (Fla.) in 2014-15 while head coach Eric Konkol was on staff for the Hurricanes. He most recently spent one season starring at Paris Junior College in his home state of Texas.

"We are thrilled that Omar has chosen to join our Louisiana Tech family,” Konkol said. “He is a skilled front court player with the ability to score around the basket as well as on the perimeter. Omar brings size and experience to our team and we look forward to working with him."

The theme of the Dallas area being Bulldog Country continues as Sherman is a native of Duncanville, just like fall signee Jalen Harris. Other recruiting class members, Oliver Powell and JaColby Pemberton, also call that area home.

Sherman was named to the All-Region XIV Second Team and the All-Region XIV North Zone Second Team averaging 14.8 points per game while shooting 56.1 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from beyond the arc. He started in all 30 games for the Dragons and scored in double figures in 26 of them, including five games of 20+ points.

He was also a standout defender, averaging 7.1 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game, totaling 203 defensive boards and 67 rejections which ranked third and fourth in the NJCAA Region XIV, respectively.

While at Miami, Sherman started in 10 games for the Hurricanes with eight of those coming in ACC action. He averaged 4.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game, registering a season-high 13 points three separate times.

Scout.com ranked Sherman as the No. 20 power forward in the country and the No. 94 best player overall coming out of Duncanville High School.
