Tech Adds Clark to Men’s Basketball Roster

RUSTON -- Trinity Valley Community College point guard Jonathan “JC” Clark will be joining Louisiana Tech’s men’s basketball roster for the 2007-08 season.

“Clark possesses great leadership qualities, along with many outstanding point guard abilities,” Tech head coach Kerry Rupp said. “His mental toughness, along with his poise, unselfishness and strong basketball IQ really excite me as a coach. I know he has been extremely well coached and conditioned not only to be a great point guard, but also a great person and great asset to our program.”

Clark played the past two seasons under head coach Pat Smith where he averaged 14 points, five assists and three rebounds a game, was named All-Region 14 and played in the Region 14 vs. National Team All-Star game.

“The number one thing I can say about JC is that he’s a very true point guard,” Smith said. “He has great command of the game and excellent court vision, and he can score. He was the one player on this team that really gave us a chance to win every night we played. I have no doubt in my mind that he will have a very successful two year career at Louisiana Tech under Coach Rupp.”

Prior to TVCC, Clark lettered four years for coach Jerry Faulkner at Charlotte Latin School in Charlotte, N.C., where he helped lead the Hawks to two state championships in the 2002 and 2004 and district championships from 2002-04. In high school, Clark averaged 17 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals and was named all-conference and all-state as a junior. Clark was also ranked in the Top 150 Prep Fall Rankings by Hoop Scoop as a senior.

“On my visit to Ruston, I loved everything about Tech,” Clark said. “The returning players have a good chemistry about them, and I feel like I can contribute immediately and help us be successful. I like Coach Rupp’s style of play and it really caught my interest. Ruston is the perfect place for me to concentrate and focus on what I need to do to help our team in any way.”
