RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech head coach Kerry Rupp announced the addition of point guard Juevol Myles of Ontario, Canada, putting the final touch on one of the top recruiting classes in recent school history.
"This is a terrific late signee," Rupp said. "(Associate head coach) Nikita Johnson and my staff did a great job with the recruitment of Juevol. He was being looked at by some very good basketball schools, and I couldn't be more excited to have him come to Tech. He is a very tough, talented and committed player who enjoys doing all the little things like defending, rebounding down and making plays to his teammates, but what impresses me the most is his tremendous leadership ability and willingness to do whatever it takes to win."
Myles is a 6'1", 190-pound pure point guard that led the Pickering High School Trojans in Ajax, Ontario, to a 70-2 record and a Canadian Provincial and national title after averaging 13 points and eight assists per game. Myles also played on the Canadian Junior National Team and played AAU basketball with current Bulldog freshman Olu Ashaolu.
"I'm very excited to be coming to Louisiana Tech," Myles said. "It's a great opportunity. It's a program on the rise, and I want to be a part of it. The coaching staff showed a lot of interest in my, and they really showed me what they want to be about. Ruston is a great city to be in, and I'm excited to become a Bulldog."
Both Rupp and Myles' AAU coach Ro Russell of Grassroots Canada were high on Myles' work ethic and how he makes his teammates better.
"He's a great kid and a great team player," Russell said. "He has great leadership skills and energy that always reflects on his other teammates. He was very instrumental to the success of our AAU program, and I'm certain that will pass on as he takes the next step to Louisiana Tech."
Myles rounds out the 2008-09 recruiting class that includes center Shawn Olliverson, transfers Jamel Guyton and David Jackson along with high school stars Brandon Gibson out of Florida and Arrez Henderson of Kentucky.
