Church Named Director of Basketball Operations

Kyle Church

July 18, 2013

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech head coach Michael White announced today the hiring of Kyle Church as the new Director of Basketball Operations.

"Coach White is one of the top head coaches in the country and I'm very honored to be a part of his staff," said Church. "Having worked with coach White and his three assistants before, I know how hard they work and how much they are dedicated to the success of Louisiana Tech basketball. I am very excited to be a part of the LA Tech family and look forward to getting started right away."

This past year Church was an assistant coach at Chipola College in Marianna, Fla., the hometown of former Bulldog Brandon Gibson, where he helped guide the Indians to a 26-5 record and a top 15 national ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

His primary responsibilities included scouting, recruiting and on-court development.

Prior to being on the coaching staff with the Indians, Church was the head graduate assistant manager at LA Tech during the 2011-12 season under coach White when the `Dogs pulled off upsets of Utah State and Nevada to reach their first ever WAC Tournament Final.

Church was in charge of monitoring the players' academic progress and handling video content while receiving his master's degree in kinesiology with a focus in sports performance.

During the 2010-11 season, Church was with White at Ole Miss as a graduate assistant for the men's basketball team that went 20-14 with an appearance in the 2011 National Invitation Tournament (NIT). His primary duties were working on skill development, academics, video exchange and video breakdown.

"Kyle is a natural fit," said White. "We've worked together in two different programs, so he obviously brings familiarity and continuity to the table. He's a relentless worker and another future coach."

In the spring of 2009, Church was a volunteer assistant coach with the AAU team Charlotte Royals out of Charlotte, N.C. He assisted with the A team at the Peach Jam, Boo Williams and other major national tournaments.

While earning his bachelor's degree in history, Church was a walk-on at fellow C-USA member Charlotte from 2006-10. He scored his first career points, a three-pointer, against Indiana at Assembly Hall in 2006. Church was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll all four years which honors student-athletes that have a 3.5 GPA or higher.
