RUSTON - After producing an All-Star season in his first year with the Atlanta Hawks, former Louisiana Tech great Paul Millsap has received an invitation to join the Team USA basketball roster, it was announced Sunday by USAB officials.

Millsap's addition takes the number of senior players in camp under Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski to 19. Of those 19, he will attempt to claim a spot on the final 12-man roster which will represent their country at the inaugural FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain starting Aug. 30.

"I'm very excited about being added to the USA Men's National Team roster," Millsap said in an official statement on Sunday. "I look forward to practicing with and competing against some of the NBA's best for the honor of representing our country in Spain."

After spending seven seasons with the Utah Jazz, the team who drafted him in the second round in 2006, Millsap signed with the Hawks where he posted career numbers.

He averaged career-bests in points per game (17.9), assists per game (3.1) and steals per game (1.7) while also tallying 8.5 boards per contest en route to making his first ever All-Star game appearance.

Millsap helped lead the Hawks to the playoffs where they nearly knocked off the No. 1-seeded Indiana Pacers in the first round.

As a Bulldog, Millsap was a three-time All-Western Athletic Conference selection and became the first player to ever lead the NCAA in rebounding three consecutive years.

He currently ranks seventh all-time in program history in total points (1,708) and second in total rebounds (1,172).

The power forward could join another former LA Tech power forward, Karl Malone, as participants of Team USA on the world stage. Malone was a two-time Olympic gold medalist in 1992 and 1996.
