Tech Madness Set for Oct. 24
Oct. 16, 2013
RUSTON - Louisiana Tech basketball fans will have an opportunity to meet the new while checking out the old during Tech Madness which is set for Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at Scotty Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.
This year's event will be held at the former basketball arena where both teams played prior to the construction of the Thomas Assembly Center in the early '80s and will allow Tech fans to meet this year's Bulldog and Lady Techster teams. It is free and open to the public and is an official LA Tech Kids Club Event.
Head coach Teresa Weatherspoon's Lady Techsters and head coach Mike White's Bulldogs will be introduced along with the coaching staffs. Members of the Lady Techster team will perform skits while both teams will compete in a three-point shooting contest along with LA Tech students who will be randomly selected.
Select Bulldog basketball players will also compete in a slam dunk contest with members of the Blue Crew serving as judges.
The night will also include performances by the LA Tech Band of Pride, Regal Blues and Cheerleaders as well as appearances by Champ and Tech XXI. Fans will have opportunities to win raffle prizes, including gift cards and autographed posters.
Weatherspoon and the Lady Techsters return seven letter winners and welcome five newcomers from last year's team along with an entirely new coaching staff made up of Drew Miller, Mike Ekanem, Tomekia Reed and Ronnie Barney.
White and the Bulldogs return 11 letterwinners and the nucleus of its starting lineup from last year's Western Athletic Conference championship team that won 27 games and made its first appearance in the Top 25 since 1985.
Tech fans will also have an opportunity to purchase their season tickets for the upcoming year as members of the athletic departments ticket office will be on hand. Season tickets can also be purchased by calling 318-257-3631 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Scotty Robertson Memorial Gym - formerly known as Memorial Gym - was renovated last summer with the addition of the new state-of-the-art floor by Sports Floors Inc. Along with the new floor, new backboards, rims and padding were installed as well as repair to the bleachers.
The project was funded through contributions from former players, coaches, friends and colleagues of Robertson, who was an eight-time hall of famer who coached at Louisiana Tech from 1964 through 1974.
