RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's men's basketball team makes its season debut on Tuesday with an exhibition game against Champion Baptist College at 8 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
The Bulldogs return two starters from last season's 24-11 squad in senior guard DeAndre Brown and junior forward Olu Ashaolu. Also returning are sophomore guards Brandon Gibson, Tevin Hall, Justin Rake and Darius Redding.
Tuesday's game will be the first time for nine newcomers to take to Karl Malone Court in competition after nearly two and a half weeks of practice. The talented incoming class includes guards Lonnie Smith, Kenyon McNeaill, Stojan Gjuroski and Cordarius Johnson as well as frontcourt players James Johnson, J.L. Lewis and Romario Souza.
Head coach Kerry Rupp returns for his fourth season at the helm of the Bulldog program and after being named coach of the year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association and the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches last season. To garner such honors, Rupp improved the squad by nine wins over the previous season while taking the Bulldogs to the postseason for the first time since 2006.
Last season, Louisiana Tech defeated Lincoln (Mo.) 91-54 in its exhibition game on a game-high 23 points by Kyle Gibson.
