RUSTON - The final preseason tune-up for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs has arrived as they take on Southern Arkansas at 6:30 p.m. Monday night in the Thomas Assembly Center in what is the second and final exhibition.
Just like last season, LA Tech played its first exhibition game against Arkansas-Monticello and defeated the Boll Weevils handily.
Four Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by junior guard Raheem Appleby who netted 19 on the night, in an 85-64 win.
And just like last season, LA Tech will play a second exhibition game against the same opponent, Southern Arkansas.
"We wanted to play two exhibition games because we thought it helped us get off to a good start last season," head coach Michael White said. "I like the game experience that playing in front of a crowd gives our guys as opposed to a closed scrimmage."
Coach White came away discouraged in two areas, shooting percentage and defensive effort, last Wednesday night against UAM. The Bulldogs shot just 8-of-28 from three-point range and only out-rebounded the Boll Weevils by three.
"I'd like to see us shoot the ball better," White said. "More importantly, I'd like to see us defend and rebound with more urgency if we're going to have any chance of success at Saint Mary's."
The Bulldogs tipoff the 2013-14 basketball season on Nov. 8 in Moraga, Calif. in McKeon Pavilion versus Saint Mary's at 10:30 p.m.
