RUSTON – Louisiana Tech head coach Eric Konkol announced Wednesday that transfer LeAntwan Luckett has been granted a waiver by the NCAA and will be eligible to play this upcoming season for the Bulldogs.

As a fifth year senior, the NCAA requires 80 percent of degree completion to be eligible immediately. Luckett will meet that percentage with a successful completion of courses this fall and be able to play starting on Nov. 20.

Luckett spent the past three seasons playing for Alcorn State where he was a three-time All-SWAC selection while amassing 1,441 career points. He was most recently named to the 2015 Boxtorow All-American team which honors the best players from HBCU’s.

“LeAntwan is a talented and experienced player who will be counted on to contribute this year,” Konkol said. “He is a gifted athlete and hard worker. He has gained 10 pounds since the fall quarter began and continues to improve. We are very happy he has joined the Bulldog Family.”

While starting 28 games as a junior for the Braves, he ranked third in the SWAC in scoring with an average of 16.3 points per game which included 20+ scoring performances in 11 games. He also ranked seventh in the league in steals with 1.3 per game.

Those statistics were almost a duplicate of his sophomore season when he averaged 16.0 points per game. His top scoring effort came in the 2013-14 season when he poured in a career-high 31 points at Alabama State.

Luckett was Alcorn State’s second leading scorer (13.4) and rebounder (4.0) as a freshman in 2012-13, receiving third team All-SWAC honors.

Coming out of Ridgeland High School in the state of Mississippi, he was a four-star recruit by Rivals and was ranked as the 94th overall prospect in the country and the 24th best shooting guard in the country.

The Bulldogs will also be without sophomores Jacobi Boykins and Joniah White for the exhibition and first two games of the regular season as they are academically ineligible, stemming from the spring quarter.

LA Tech hosts Southwest Baptist on Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. in an exhibition before opening the regular season in the TAC on Nov. 13 versus Millsaps College.
