Bulldogs Get Win Over Wonder Boys
RUSTON -- The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs wrapped up the preseason Wednesday night against the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys with a 76-70 victory in the Thomas Assembly Center.
The Bulldogs’ offense got off to a slow start and trailed 8-0 before sophomore Kyle Gibson put Tech’s first two points on the board at the 15:52 mark in the first half. Tech did bounce back and ran off a half-ending 11-0 run starting at the 7:33 mark. The Bulldogs led 27-22 at halftime.
“I think we’ve got to be a team that has to come out tough,” Tech head coach Kerry Rupp said. “We can’t be soft. We’ve got to have some leadership on the floor and hold each other accountable.”
The offense was totally different in the second half with both teams combining for 97 points as Tech held on for the win at the final gun.
Gibson led Tech scorers with 13 points and seven rebounds. Junior James Loe and freshman Olu Ashaolu both finished with 12 points, while junior JC Clark added 11 points. Senior Keith Smith and Dwayne Lathan tallied 10 points.
The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Wonder Boys 43-38.
Tech will return to action Saturday, Nov. 10, at 4:30 p.m. in Starkville, Miss., to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs to open the regular season.
