Nov. 16, 2015
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech head coach Eric Konkol added to his fall signing class on Monday with the announcement of forward JaColby Pemberton inking a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bulldogs.
Pemberton becomes the third signee, along with Jalen Harris and Oliver Powell, for LA Tech with the entire trio calling the Dallas area home.
“We are excited to welcome JaColby Pemberton to our Louisiana Tech Bulldog Family,” Konkol said. “JaColby, Jalen and Oliver are first class people, quality students and talented basketball players who come from winning programs. They are motivated to become the best version of themselves at Louisiana Tech and we are excited to help them.”
Pemberton is ranked as the 32nd best player in Texas per TexasHoops.com while playing for one of the top programs in the country at Lancaster High School, the same school that former Bulldog great Michale Kyser attended.
“JaColby is a versatile small forward who can play all over the floor,” Konkol said. “He is a winner and was an instrumental part of the 2015 Lancaster High School state championship team under coach Ferrin Douglas.
“He plays with great energy, has an engaging personality and a competitive mindset. He is a perfect fit for our style of play and the philosophy of our program.”
Pemberton registered eight points and eight rebounds as the Tigers defeated Beaumont Ozen, 59-47, to win the UIL State Class 5A boys championship.
Ranked No. 1 in the state 5A poll, Lancaster won 28 games in a row while finishing with a 34-4 overall record on the season.
As a junior, the 6-foot-6-inch forward averaged 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. He was named the most valuable player of the Coca-Cola Tournament.
Pemberton played alongside Bulldog signee Jalen Harris for the AAU Pro Skills.
