LA Tech Faces another Tough Road Test at Nebraska
Nov. 18, 2016
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech knew coming into the season that the month of November was going to be a challenge with having to face three Power Five schools on the road in the first six games.
The second of the three takes place on Saturday night at Nebraska with tipoff set for 7 p.m. inside Pinnacle Bank Arena.
The matchup will be streamed live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. Shawn Kenney and Mac McCausland will call the action from Lincoln.
LA Tech (1-1) got into the win column this past Wednesday night with a convincing 87-56 victory at home over Alabama State. Four Bulldogs finished in double figures, led by the duo of Erik McCree and Jacobi Boykins who each had 18 points.
The Bulldogs got after the Hornets defensively, forcing 25 turnovers which turned into 29 points. They also finished with 11 steals, the same amount as their season opener at South Carolina.
Nebraska (2-0) enters Saturday night’s contest having already posted convincing wins over Sacramento State and the University of Mary.
The Huskers have been forced to replace 33 points per game with the departures of Shavon Shields and Andrew White III off last year’s team which finished 16-18. So far, it has been the duo of Tai Webster and Glynn Watson Jr. who have combined for 59 points.
Nebraska has produced lopsided victories because of its defense, allowing just 49.5 points per game and 35 percent shooting from the opposition. The Huskers have also dominated the glass to the tune of +19 rebounding margin.
LA Tech and Nebraska have met only one time on the hardwood. That meeting came on Nov. 20, 2005 in the John Thompson Classic where the Huskers prevailed, 59-56.
The ‘Dogs have rarely ventured north to take on opponents from the Big Ten. They did do so last year, going up to Columbus, Ohio in the fourth game of the season and coming away with an 82-74 upset over Ohio State.
The game can be heard live on the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston) and the LA Tech X Mobile app. The “Voice of the Bulldogs” Dave Nitz will call the play-by-play.
