Bulldogs Return Home to Face Bison
Nov. 22, 2016
RUSTON – After opening the season on the road in two of the first three games, Louisiana Tech is now set to play four of its next five at home starting with a matchup against Oklahoma Baptist on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. inside the Thomas Assembly Center.
LA Tech (1-2) looks to continue its home dominance, especially when it comes to non-conference action, where the team is 52-1 since the 2008-09 season.
The Bulldogs have already won one game in the TAC this season, that coming a week ago in a convincing victory over Alabama State.
However the road has not been as kind. In both losses, LA Tech was within striking distance late in an attempt to pull off the upset.
At South Carolina in the season opener, the ‘Dogs were within six points with 3:30 to play and had two layups missed at the rim that would have cut the deficit down to four.
At Nebraska this past Saturday, the team was within six points yet again. This time it was with 57 seconds left to go, but the Huskers sealed it with four made free throws.
Free throws ended up being the main different in the loss. Both squads made exactly six three-pointers and the Bulldogs had just two more made field goals than Nebraska. However, the Huskers made 21 free throws to only six for the Bulldogs.
Redshirt senior Erik McCree led the way in scoring with 16 points and in rebounds with eight. It marked the 11th time in his career he has led LA Tech in both categories in a single game. He anchors the team in both for the season with an average of 14 points and six boards per contest.
After dropping the first three games of the season, Oklahoma Baptist (1-3) got into the win column in a big way by downing Manhattan Christian by a score of 113-80. The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Bison, dating back to last season.
It was OBU’s first 100-point scoring game since January of 2015 with the offensive explosion being led by guard Steven Green who dropped a team-high 23 points.
Green is part of a starting lineup who all average double figures in scoring. Fellow guard Kevin Franceschi leads the team with an average of 19 points per game followed by Green who averages 15.5 per contest.
LA Tech and Oklahoma Baptist have only faced off against one another on one occasion. That came back in November of 1991 with the Bulldogs coming away with a convincing 93-62 win over the Bison.
It was a close game at intermission with LA Tech clinging to a three-point lead, but they outscored OBU 51-23 in the second half to run away with the victory. Ron Ellis and Anthony Dade combined for 50 points in the contest while the defense forced 23 turnovers.
