GameDay Central | Game Notes

RUSTON – After suffering its first loss of the season, the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team looks to start a new winning streak on Saturday night as they take on Miles College at 6 p.m. to begin a four-game home stand inside the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court.

LA Tech (5-1) has won 10 straight home games and is 60-2 in non-conference home games dating back to the start of the 2008-09 season.

The live video stream can be seen with a paid subscription to CUSA.tv. Fans can listen to the Voice of the Bulldogs Dave Nitz and Jack Thigpen call the action on the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston) and KJVC 92.7 FM (Mansfield) as well as on the Louisiana Tech X mobile app.

The Bulldogs were ever so close to remaining undefeated. They had the lead for over 36 minutes against the No. 24 ranked team in the country in Alabama, but the Crimson Tide were able to escape with a three-point victory in Tuscaloosa.

Even though it was a heartbreaking loss, there were a lot of positives to take away with the first true road test of the season. The defense ended up holding UA to season lows in field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage and forced a season-high 18 turnovers by the Crimson Tide.

Sophomore point guard DaQuan Bracey went toe-to-toe with Alabama’s phenom point guard Collin Sexton, tying his career high with 21 points to go along with four assists. He is the lone Bulldog to score in double figures in all six games this season.

Senior guard Jacobi Boykins had an off shooting night but still poured in 14 points. He is now only seven points away from becoming the 40th player in program history to reach 1,000 for his career.

Junior forward Jy’lan Washington was another Bulldog in double figures. He registered a career-high 12 points on the night. And there was sophomore guard Jalen Harris who posted 12 points while battling foul trouble.

The four backcourt players – Boykins, Bracey, Harris and junior guard Derric Jean off the bench – are all still averaging double-digit points, combining to score 56.4 points per game (team is averaging 82.2 points per game).

Miles College (0-6) is a Division II school that plays in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in Fairfield, Alabama.

The Golden Bears are currently winless on the season with their most recent loss coming to SIAC foe Morehouse College by a final score of 77-69. Miles was supposed to take on Spring Hill at home on Thursday, but the game was postponed.

Offensively, guards Carl Garcia and Jeffrey Dockett anchor the team with an average of 15 points per game apiece.
