RUSTON - After piling up a total of 56 points in two convincing Louisiana Tech wins over Southeastern Louisiana and Georgia State this past week, sophomore guard Raheem Appleby was announced today as the LSWA and WAC Player of the Week.
This is the second consecutive week Appleby has earned the award from the Western Athletic Conference, and it comes after two terrific performances by the Jacksonville, Ark. native.
In the overpowering win against SELU 99-62, Appleby registered a game-high 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting in just 27 minutes of action while also anchoring a defense that forced 24 turnovers in the effort.
Forty-five hours later in Atlanta, Ga. against GSU, the 6-foot-3-inch guard had a career performance, pouring in a career-high 34 points while going an astounding 14-of-19 from the field. The 34 points is currently tied for 13th in the country for most in a single game. He also shined on the defensive side of the ball, pulling down seven rebounds in the 86-68 win against the Panthers.
On the week, Appleby averaged 28.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 69.7 percent (23-of-33) from the field.
The Bulldogs return to the hardwood on Tuesday night as they go for their eighth straight win this season as they take on longtime rival Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. at 7:30 p.m.
