Early Texas Tech Lead Proves Insurmountable for Bulldogs
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (1-5) fell to the Texas Tech Red Raiders (6-3) Wednesday night in the United Spirit Arena by a final score of 86-31.
“We got taught some hard lessons tonight,” Tech head coach Kerry Rupp said. “There are little things we have to do as a basketball team. We can’t come out and not contest shots. I give them credit; they did some good things defensively. We have to compete at the end of the day.”
The Red Raiders struck first to lead 4-0, but senior Keith Smith answered for the Bulldogs at the 17:22 mark to cut the lead to 4-2. Texas Tech added another bucket before junior Drew Washington hit his first three-pointer of the night for a 6-5 score with 15:51 remaining in the first half.
After falling behind 10-5, sophomore Kyle Gibson scored his first points of the night to cut the Texas Tech lead to 10-7 around the 14-minute mark. The Bulldogs would get no closer for the remainder of the game after trailing 41-12 going into the halftime locker room.
Senior Keith Smith led Tech scorers with nine points.
The Bulldogs will return home next week and will take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. in the Thomas Assembly Center.
